ON 7th JUNE 48 years ago, the Sex Pistols took a boat on the Thames so that they could play ‘God Save the Queen’ as it passed the ‘Houses of Parliament’.
The event, intended to mock the ‘Queen’'s river procession planned for two days later, ended with loser cops forcing the vessel to dock, before arresting manager Malcolm McLaren and most of the band's entourage.
What crime had been committed? None, proving once again that the ‘police’ are there to defend the rich, not to protect the innocent.
It might seem like merely a publicity stunt, but what band today would directly take on the Establishment like this? This is what The Anti-Club exists for - to remind this pathetic, subservient world of the transformative, revolutionary power that rock’n’roll once had, and can have again if people wake the hell up.
On a side note, happy birthdays to Prince and Tom Jones…
